Journalism


Within the last few years faculty members have held leadership positions with major professional associations, the Society of Professional Journalist and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. They have written textbooks on the creative process involved in journalism. They have written widely circulated nonfiction books on Canadian artists and on the work of internationally famous artists. They have published scholarly papers in the fields of journalism history and the routines of media professionals in Latin America.

They have published newspaper columns widely circulated in Latin America. Their television news reporting has been broadcast on international networks. Their trade magazine articles on newsroom diversity have also been published nationally. Recent FIU graduates have held positions at CBS network news, CNN, The Washington Post, Sports Illustrated, the Denver Post, the Washington bureau of Cox News Service, and network television affiliates in Albany, Ga., and San Antonio, Texas. The department has one student club, the Society of Professional Journalists.
