leadership council

The SLMC Professional Leadership Council’s (PLC) mission is to keep our school on top of the current needs and future trends of the professions and industries that we serve. PLC members are also vital to our school’s efforts in the acquisition of resources necessary to achieve our development goals through contacts with prospective individual, foundation and corporate donors. PLC members serve as ambassadors for the school in South Florida, regionally and internationally. Members also enjoy the satisfaction of being affiliated with one of the best journalism and mass communication schools in the country.

John Bartosek

John "Jbart" Bartosek, Editor, The Palm Beach Post in West Palm Beach, Florida. Jbart has been Editor since February 2005. From September 1986-2000, Jbart worked as editor in charge of news desk, metro desk, sports, business, Living, and investigative team. He later served as managing editor for 4 years, beginning the week before the 2000 election.

For ten years he worked at The News & Observer in Raleigh, N.C. serving as News editor for 8 years. He is a journalism graduate of the University of Florida.

 

Dr. Nancy L. Green
Publisher, Courier Communications, and Vice President Circulation,
Lee Enterprises, Inc.

Nancy L. Green is Publisher of The Courier, Waterloo/Cedar Falls, IA and Vice President - Circulation at Lee Enterprises, Inc., the nation’s 4th largest daily newspaper company. Before joining Lee in December 2000, she was a vice president in the University System of Georgia – Vice President for Advancement at Clayton State University and Vice President for Communications at Georgia G.L.O.B.E., the USG’s online learning initiative for the 34 institutions in the system

Previously, Green was the assistant to the president/newspaper division on the Gannett corporate staff and publisher of two Gannett newspapers - The Springfield (MO) News Leader and The Richmond (IN) Palladium-Item. Before joining Gannett, she was the general manager of student media at the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Kentucky.

A native of Lexington, Kentucky, she received BA and MA degrees in journalism from the University of Kentucky and Ball State University and the doctorate from Nova Southeastern University.

She serves on the board of directors of the INMA North American Division, Vice President the NAA Circulation Federation, member of the NAA Postal Committee, Readership Advisory Group.

Phil Lewis

Naples Daily News

Phil Lewis, 53, was named editor and vice president of the Naples Daily News on Aug. 25, 1997.

Prior to his appointment, he served seven years as managing editor of the Daily News. He joined the newspaper in 1978 as a reporter and served as city editor from 1981 to 1989. Before joining the Daily News in Florida, he was sports editor and later city editor of the Washington C.H. (Ohio) Record-Herald.
He was born in Missouri and went to high school in Springfield, Mo. He is a 1974 graduate of the University of Missouri, School of Journalism. Lewis is a member of the Florida Society of Newspaper Editors and the American Society of Newspaper Editors.
