on beautiful Biscayne Bay Campus in
North Miami Beach, Florida. The South
Florida area provides a ready-made laboratory
for the study of Journalism and Mass
Communication. Miami/Fort Lauderdale
is one of the top 20 television markets
in the country, a major international
crossroad for business, the U.S. center
for the cruise business, a huge tourism
and service area, and a home to a variety
of agencies and media.
Florida International
University`s School of Journalism and
Mass Communication is an accredited
school, recognized by the national Accrediting
Council on Education in Journalism and
Mass Communications (ACEJMC). Of all
the Journalism and Mass Communication
programs in the country, approximately
only 25% are accredited by ACEJMC. Welcome
to a quality program!
While theory is an important
part of the curriculum, a great deal
of emphasis is placed on the actual
practice of Journalism and Mass Communication
in order to prepare you for your first
job and to allow you to grow within
the industry.
The school aims at preparing
professionals. We want to prepare you
to be able to demonstrate a grasp of
the liberal arts and an appreciation
of the value of knowledge and learning.
We want you to also explore, in some
depth, a specific field of knowledge
outside of communications and be proficient
in the basic skills necessary to meet
the demands of the profession. This
includes your ability to write English
to professional standards by mastering
the mechanics of writing, grammar, spelling
and punctuation.
We want you to be able
to think clearly and objectively about
the complexities of the modern world,
formulate concepts and effectively communicate
information to targeted audiences as
well as be able to understand the social,
ethical, economic, philosophical and
political aspects of the communication
profession in our society. Each department
within the School of Journalism and
Mass Communication has prepared an information

the courses, and requirements.
